Brother to Brother Leadership Forums

Brother to Brother is a community-based leadership forum of a consortium of Black men (adult and youth) focusing on critical concerns that affect our families and communities. Major goals of the Brother to Brother Leadership Forum are to enhance community and neighborhood safety, improve quality education in our communities, develop political and legal expertise, improve community wellness including mental, physical, and behavioral wellness, and economic development and economic self-suffiency. The forum provides and opportunity for men and young males to talk and plan activities that will provide mentoring opportunities for the youth. The major objectives of the Brother to Brother Leadership Forum are to:

1. Cultivate a new harvest of young Black men under the mentorship, coaching and wisdom of positive adult Black men;
2. Develop prescriptions and actions necessary to create permanent safeguards for Black youth, families and communities; and
3. Share life experiences, challenges and assess rational and salient solutions.

Local Black men and youth from all walks of life meet on regularly in a community fellowship breakfast forum to discuss and inform each other on community issues, social/economic opportunities, spirituality, family and leadership responsibilities, etc. The 2011 focus of the Brother to Brother Leadership forum is “Game Changers – Black Men Who Flipped the Script.” Game Changers are Black men who, even though ‘the script” says that they should be in jail or on or selling drugs, or dead, they were able to Flip the Script and become the successful role models of today. During 2011, these Game Changers will meet monthly to:

• Develop mentoring activities and the Game Changer Mentoring Initiative to provide direction and hope for youth, including employment and internship opportunities
• Plan an event to showcase Game Changers of Today which will acknowledge, commend and honor Game Changers 40 and under, Game Changers 40 and over, and celebrate each others’ accomplishments
• Plan a 2012 Youth Summit
• Develop a “how to” manual including tools used for the keys to success, a block by block roadmap to becoming a Game Changer
