Multi-Media Arts Initiative
The Arts, Culture, and Training Institute, a partnership between Community Empowerment Association (CEA) and the August Wilson Center for African American Culture will host a week of art workshops. It will focus on the artistic disciplines of Dance, Yoga, Theatre, Music, Visual Arts and Literature. These workshops are designed to survey the Arts education needs of the East End Community.

TIME:
4:30 PM—7:30 PM (Monday—Friday);
10 am—3:30 pm (Saturday) -
Each workshop will be 45-90 minutes
PLACE:
7120 KELLY STREET (FORMER HOLY ROSARY SCHOOL)
AGE GROUPS:
3-5 years, 8-12 years, Adults & Seniors
VISUAL ARTS
Teaching artists incorporate historical African American Artists and Themes into Multidisciplinary classes. Participants
draw, paint, collage, and use found objects to discover their creative voice. Workshops also feature art history and art
appreciation.
LITERATURE
Participants explore the literary arts through creative writing and/or spoken work workshops.
DANCE
Workshops will be catered to students interested in developing a pre-professional dance foundation as well as to
individuals who choose this art form as a means of creativity and good health. Students will explore the history of dance,
relative to African American culture, and discover rhythm and movement through their own bodies.
MUSIC
Participants learn about the foundation of African American music and its influence on world culture. Musicians and
enthusiasts of all ages enjoy jazz, rhythm and improvisation.
THEATRE
(Lead by teaching artists of newly formed August Wilson Center Theatre Ensemble.) Participants discover the art of acting,
playwriting, and improvisation. Workshops will use the foundation of august Wilson 10 play Century Cycle as a
foundation to explore the African American experience.
YOGA
Participants in 90 minute workshops become center4ed and rejuvenate the body with restorative in gentle yoga positions,
allowing participants to take control of your fitness, health and well being.
