Urban Renaissance Art's Movement

"Nothing really holds us back from solutions to our world dilemmas, except the lid we have put on our own creativity. Opening ourselves to the creative force within allows us to envision the possible. Envisioning the possible excites our will and determination to create it." - Natalie Rogers

Mission
To engage and inspire Pittsburgh youth through the arts to be agents of change in their communities

Vision
Coming out of The Presidential Award for Community Service and excellence, the city-wide Urban Renaissance Arts Movement will inspire youth to explore their past and look forward for solutions to current issues through four primary Arts and Culture Departments: (Creative Writing & Performing Arts, Hip Hop Academy, Dance, and Multi-Media Arts). Interwoven into the curriculum and instruction of these core areas of focus will also be the realm of social thought (sociology, historiography, philosophy, and psychology). These artists will find new ways to express the Obama platform of change through these mediums and contemporary experience. By participating in this process, these students will obtain social awareness, leadership development, community consciousness, and a historical framework for utilizing the arts to create and sustain social justice.
