CEA, in collaboration with Councilmember Khari Mosley’s office and The People, recently hosted its first Community Conversation to address the urgent challenges Black families will face due to upcoming 2025 policies. This event created a vital space for open dialogue, collective strategizing, and proactive solutions to safeguard essential resources in our communities.
A Space for Voices, Solutions, and Action
The meeting’s primary goal was to unite the community in identifying concerns and crafting recommendations to counteract policies that threaten housing, economic stability, education, and social services. Attendees engaged in focused breakout sessions covering:
Housing – Discussing affordability, displacement, and policy changes.
Economic Development – Addressing job security, business opportunities, and financial empowerment.
Education – Exploring the effects of funding shifts on schools and youth programs.
Social Services – Understanding changes in community support systems and assistance programs.
The Reality of 2025: What’s at Stake?

Legal expert Amber Owens provided critical insights, warning that county contracts and resources allocated for Allegheny County will be cut off by 2026. This stark reality emphasized the urgent need for mobilization to protect and sustain our community.
Unity, Mobilization, and Next Steps
The event fostered a strong sense of solidarity and determination, with attendees committing to continued organizing, education, and action. This conversation was just the beginning—we must maintain momentum to protect our families and resources.
