EDUCATION JUSTICE!! A CALL TO RECLAIM LEARNING FOR LIBERATION

What is education today, if it does not serve our underserved Black students?
From Brown v. Board of Education to the post-Reconstruction era, our ancestors, many of them newly freed, built Freedom and Liberation Schools to teach truth, culture, and survival. They understood that education was not just about reading and arithmetic; it was about reclaiming identity and resisting erasure.
Today, we face a new enemy, the Education Industrial Complex, systems controlled by corporate entities that dictate curriculum, control funding, and silence cultural relevance. They have stripped our children of their history, their values, and their voice.
THE CRISIS WE FACE
Intentional divestment from inner-city schools and culturally grounded programs.
Policy erasure of initiatives designed to uplift and empower Black students.
No equity between schools in affluent communities and those in our underserved neighborhoods.
Cultural disconnection, where our children are taught everything but
who they are.
Educators are economically restricted, unable to create independent, community-based learning spaces.
This is not neglect. It is design. And it must be dismantled.
EDUCATION IS MORE THAN ACADEMICS
Education is life. It is identity. It is legacy. It is the ability to understand the world through the lens of our own story.
Other communities teach their children outside of the system, about their culture, language, and values. We must do the same.
OUR VISION
We call on educators, parents, organizers, and community leaders to rise and rebuild:

Build creative, independent community educational institutions.
Develop Liberation Curriculums rooted in truth, culture, and self-determination.
Reclaim the spirit of Freedom Schools — spaces for resistance, healing, and empowerment.
Let us teach our children who they are, not just what they need to pass a test.
OUR DEMAND
We demand Education Justice. Not reform, not another pilot program, not another speech from officials who have never walked our halls. We demand transformation rooted in truth, equity, and accountability.
We are done asking for permission to fix systems that were designed to fail us. We are calling to dismantle every policy, every budget, and every agenda that continues to underfund our schools and undercut our children’s futures.
Education must return to its sacred purpose, to liberate the mind, restore identity, and prepare our youth to lead.
We will build independent institutions that reflect our values and protect our culture. We will create new spaces for teaching and healing, spaces that remind our children who they are and where they come from.
This is not a request.
This is a declaration of our right to teach truth and build schools that serve the people.
THIS IS A CLARION CALL
To current and former educators, to parents, students, and elders. The time is now. Many educational programs and community resources are being cut or reshaped. These decisions will hit our underserved schools the hardest. We cannot afford to wait.
It’s time to give our children a quality education that uplifts their identity, protects their future, and empowers their freedom.
To every educator who still believes in teaching truth, to every parent who refuses to stay silent. This call is for you.
